Originally developed by Disney Theatrical Productions
Based on Victor Hugo's gothic masterpiece and featuring the film's Academy Award-nominated score plus new songs, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a breathtaking tale of love, acceptance, redemption, and hope even in the darkest of times.
CHARACTERS:
ESMERELDA: Female-identified character, 20s-30s. A beautiful and free-spirited Romani woman who possesses the strong sense of justice and morality that Frollo lacks. Compassionate, she frees Quasimodo from the frenzied mob at the Feast of Fools and, against her better judgment, falls for the cocky Phoebus. Vocal range: Eb3-Db5.
CAPT. PHOEBUS DE MARTIN: Male-identified character, mid-20s-40s. Returning to Paris after serving in the war, Phoebus takes up his new position as Captain of the Cathedral Guard. Overconfident yet charming, this handsome, strong soldier makes the ladies swoon, yet his moral compass is also strong, and he openly defies the corrupted Frollo. Vocal range: Ab2-Ab4.
CLOPIN TROUILLEFOU: Male-identified character, 30s-40s. The clever and charismatic King of the Roma. An air of mystery surrounds Clopin, who often leaves the scene in a puff of smoke. As the master of ceremonies for the Feast of Fools, he is witty and playful, but he boasts a darker, serious nature when not performing for the crowd. Vocal range: C3-G4.
ENSEMBLE / JEHAN FROLLO: Male-identified character, 20s-30s. Claude’s reckless younger brother. With Florika, he fathers Quasimodo, who he leaves in his brother’s care. Wild, passionate, and strong-willed. Vocal range: G#2-Eb4.
ENSEMBLE / FLORIKA: Female-identified character, 20s-30s. A Romani woman and Quasimodo’s mother. Vocal range: C#4-F5.
ENSEMBLE / FATHER DUPIN: Male-identified character, 40s-60s. A priest of Notre Dame and Claude and Jehan’s guardian. Vocal range: C4-A4.
ENSEMBLE / FREDERIC CHARLUS: Male-identified character, 20s-30s. Lieutenant of the Cathedral Guard and loyal friend to Phoebus. Non-singing or light singing.
ENSEMBLE / KING LOUIS XI: Male-identified character, 40s-50s. King of France, nicknamed the Prudent. Non-singing or light singing.
ENSEMBLE / TRIBUNAL OFFICIAL: Male-identified character, 20s-50s. A judicial officer. Vocal range: G2-E4.
ENSEMBLE / MADAM: Female-identified character, mid-30s-50s. Owner of a brothel and safe haven for the Roma. Non-singing or light singing.
ENSEMBLE / SAINT APHRODISIUS: Male-identified character, 30s-50s. A stained-glass image that comes to life. Vocal range: B2-E4.
ENSEMBLE / CONGREGATION: Singer-actors portraying Roma, gargoyles, statues, soldiers, revelers, clergy, parishioners, and citizens of Paris. Strong musicianship and movement ability required.
FALSETTOS
Book by William Finne and Jampes Lapine
Music and Lyrics by William Finn
Hilarious, heartbreaking and utterly unique, Falsettos is a contemporary musical about family, relationships, bar mitvahs, baseball and AIDS. When Marvin leaves his wife Trina and son Jason to be with his lover Whizzer, tempers flare, problems escalate and everyone learns to grow up.
CHARACTERS:
MARVIN: Male-identified character, 30s, Jewish. A devoted husband and father, smart, funny, and charming. Struggles to reconcile his desire for a happy traditional family with his love for Whizzer. High baritone.
TRINA: Female-identified character, 30s, Jewish. Wife to Marvin, Mother to Jason. Charmingly neurotic in her effort to understand the conflicting feelings she has in the aftermath of her divorce. She consults Mendel, her husband’s psychiatrist and eventually marries him. Soprano/belt.
MENDEL: Male-identified character, 30s, Jewish. Marvin’s psychiatrist who marries Trina and enters into the tumultuous world of her life with her son, her ex, and her ex’s lover while struggling with his own feelings. The neurotic peacemaker. High baritone.
JASON: Male-identified character, to play 13 years old, Jewish. Marvin’s and Trina’s son. Bookish and awkward. Jason’s impending Bar Mitzvah, his parents’ divorce, and the entrance of Whizzer into his life leave him confused, angry and trying to sort it all out. Tenor.
CHARLOTTE: Female-identified character, 30s. One of the “lesbians from next door” – Charlotte is a dedicated doctor alarmed by the mysterious illness that is killing her gay male patients. Tough, but extremely nurturing, and very much in love with her partner, Cordelia. Alto/mezzo. Plays a second role in "In Trousers".
CORDELIA: Female-identified character, 30s. The other ‘lesbian from next door’ – Cordelia is Dr. Charlotte’s partner – she runs her own kosher catering business, is very keen on making a nice home, but also wants to be useful and valued for her contribution to the world. High mezzo with strong belt. Plays a second role in "In Trousers".
